I love how simplistic the clothing is in Advent Children compared to those in Rebirth. I know it's not what they intended (Rebirth is a fairly new game and AC Movie was back in the 2000's). But I like to think that characters had to improvise with their clothes because Shinra, who was the major supplier for everything, was gone after Meteorfall. Plus with Midgar down and in the middle of a wasteland, they had to scramble for resources, so any fabric had to be salvaged.
Here's some side-to-side references of Remake/Rebirth (RR) Clothing vs. Advent Children (AC) Clothing:
[Rufus Shinra]
The buttons. The details. The extra fabric. The belts. And then look how more simple AC is. Sure he has a coat on top of three shirts, but his RR suit looks so extra and customized to fit him whilst his AC suit looks like something he scrounged up in his remaining closet. He lost all of his extra belts. His undershirts look like they’re made out of cheap cotton too. His coat in particular looks short on the sleeves and too loose on his form.
[Turks: Rude, Reno, Tseng, & Elena]
(Top right photo from Advent Children)
Classic expensive suits for RR. Simple suits for AC. Look at those clean looks and small suit details for RR (ex. Rude has a patterned tie and Elena’s collar has a small button/pin on her collar). The difference is apparent with Reno, who has a fancy undershirt in Remake vs his simple cotton undershirt in AC. And if you zoom in on the AC photo, the coats have zippers!!! The AC coats also look loose compared to their form fitting coats in RR.
[Cloud Strife]
AC!Cloud has more fabric than in RR. But AC lacks the details that RR has. For example, RR has leather gloves with metal encased on the wrist and fingers. His shoulder pad looks forged with giant metal screws as well. But AC mostly has leather and little to no metal except for its strap buckles and wolf insignia (And it's likely that Cloud made those wolf symbols himself). Although, he does have major upgrades (read: his sword and motorcycle; both things he probably made himself/with help from scrap materials).
(Extra note: This is a common theme on other characters where they replace their utility pockets and metal armor with leather/denim. It makes sense for their equipment to be replaced due to wear and tear. Lack of metal armor could be due to lack of weapon/armor production. Plus Leather pauldrons/gauntlets are faster to make.)
[Tifa Lockhart]
Her outfit in AC looks more casual than in RR (ex. She got rid of her compression armbands; She switched out her red combat boots for look-alike converse sneaker boots; and put her utility pockets in front of her skirt/shorts combo). Notice how she doesn’t have gloves nor Materia slots in the movie (Although it’s weird that she DOES have gloves in other games/promos).
[Barret Wallace]
In AC, he has a sleeveless puffer jacket and a fishnet shirt. He also lost his leather utility pockets (for ammo possibly) from RR. And it’s probably because he doesn’t need it, now that he has a new advanced weapon (it can transform from a metal arm into a high tech machine gun and vice versa). As an oil baron, he probably has more access to materials and utilities compared to other characters, that’s why Barret’s clothes don’t look so simple/improvised.
[Marlene Wallace]
Obviously Marlene would have a different look when she got older. But look at her cute frilly pink dress vs. her white sleeveless collared shirt and floral patterned skirt (notice how her outfit looks like a mix of Cloud and Aerith’s outfits). The stitching for her AC outfit is way more simple. Also I’d like to think Barret gave her that floral patterned fabric for her skirt since it would have been difficult to get ahold of.
[Yuffie Kisaragi]
Zippers galore. Her outfit is changed to black with a floral patterned shirt with a denim ensemble (I think her outfit is a little extra because she's a WRO member). Her shuriken’s the same but her metal and leather armor are gone and replaced with a wristband and a black cloth that covers her forearm. She still has her utility pockets though but it’s in denim (I wonder, did she break her old armor?).
(Edit: She also has these green converse knee high boots?? Again, as a WRO member, she probs got them outside of Midgar)
[Vincent Valentine]
Nothing changed that much. He kept his coat. His AC leather straps and gauntlet are less detailed than the Rebirth one. The metal buckles look different in shape too. I think he changed those in AC. Makes sense if there were wear and tear during the years (I wonder how he does his laundry though lmao).
[Cid Highwind]
Cid changed to a cotton blue shirt. He doesn’t have his pilot scarf anymore nor his flight jacket. Instead, he has a brown bomber jacket tied around his waist with a dog tag around his neck. As much as I think his clothes are due to scarce resources, I also don’t think he cares that much regarding fashion.
[Reeve Tuesti]
The shoulder pads. The silver and yellow accents. The foot length blue coat. It's a major improvement on Reeve's outfit compared to his old businessman suit. As the WRO leader, he gets access to making his outfit a little fancy (more chances to trade with other towns/cities outside of Midgar). Although I do think someone made that coat for him, and he wanted to reject it because he considered it too much. But accepted either way 'cause it would be a waste.

Introducing: Mr. Archive
What better way to kickstart 2024 than with one the most beautifully curated, styled and fair-priced vintage stores out there?
Mr. Archive has been one of my go-to places the last few months, be it for visual inspiration on their instagram profile or the browse some of the most interesting pieces around. To be fair, after 15 years of working in this industry is getting more and more difficult for me to find garments and brands that are truly exciting and fresh. If on top of that we take into account the price point of some of these labels, many of which produce in Portugal with accessible costs, my enthusiasm dims even further.
I’ve always been passionate about the universe of vintage and pre worn garments, but this love has been fueled in recent years by the appearance of highly specialized shops that seem to be perfectly in tune with my personal style. I’ve had the chance to chat with Matteo, the mastermind behind Mr. Archive to learn more about this outstanding project.
BF: I came across Mr. Archive fairly recently and I must say that it definitely hit a soft spot within the range of vintage providers currently on my radar. How long have you been in business? What drove you to create it?
Matteo: I'm passionate about my job, believe I have a somewhat general knowledge of the fashion world, but about 4 years ago, I got fascinated by this industry, even though I already knew it. I come from a family that has always worked in the clothing industry.
BF: For me, your selection is perfectly curated, bringing a mix of military and navy-inspired garments, with a twist of Americana. Is this an extension of your own style and taste, or is it more business-oriented?
Matteo: What I propose is all based on my personal taste; I create outfits on the spot, drawing inspiration from magazines, newspapers, etc., and then I elaborate and create. My mom is an artist, and I think I took inspiration from her.
BF: Vintage has always inspired me ever since I got into fashion roughly 15 years ago. There's just something distinctive about the fabrics and the history behind each garment that you can not replicate with new items. How/where do you source your amazing selection?
Matteo: My pieces come from warehouses worldwide; I'm constantly looking for new things, and that's the wonderful thing about my job! I have strong trust in my suppliers!
BF: With sustainability being the word of order when it comes to fashion, have you noticed an increase in demand for pre-owned garments? Do you think part of the solution can be provided by vintage?
Matteo: Recently, there has been an increase in the purchase of vintage and second-hand clothing items. To be honest, I believe that a few years ago, not many people knew about this world, but now it's expanding and captivating even those who knew little about it.
BF: I noticed you have a small capsule of garments carrying your own label, namely selvedge denim and accessories. What's the story behind those? Can we expect more designs in the future?
Matteo: I won't deny that creating my own clothing line would be a great personal satisfaction, a significant growth. I recently created a small line, "MRARCHIVE," currently composed of jackets, pants, and hats. One day, I'd like to expand, but I still have much to learn and study.
BF: Any tips or advice you wish to leave for those more reluctant to explore the world of previously owned items? It's still somewhat taboo for some people.
For many people, this world is still a taboo; they're still stuck in the thought of "they're used clothes." What I think is that one should see the story and originality behind each piece to appreciate its value, both from a historical and an aesthetic perspective. Sometimes, I compare some clothing items to paintings—they should be framed.
You can find Mr. Archive here.

How to Choose a Bodycon Dress Suitable for Daily Wear?
For daily wear, every woman has her own pursuit, and it is undeniable that beauty is what every woman needs. Because of this, women pay more attention to everyday wear.
Take the present as an example, although the temperature is gradually rising, the enthusiasm of women in pursuit of beauty has not diminished in the slightest. In the hearts of many women, the shaping of beauty and coolness are very important, and because of this, women will choose those dresses that suit them and can add points to their look.
Just like this tight dress, in this season when most girls choose skirts, this skirt is obviously very in line with the current "mainstream". It especially highlights your body curve, and looks very cool and comfortable. Therefore, we also need to choose a tight dress that suits us.
Choose a comfortable fabric first: When choosing a sheath dress for everyday wear, comfort is key. Look for high-stretch materials, such as jersey or wetsuits, that are comfortable and fit well enough to keep us cool throughout the day, allowing us to maintain a more casual and comfortable look at all times.
The second is to think about dressing: pair a sheath dress with casual accessories to tone down the look. Consider minimalist jewelry, a denim jacket, or a pair of white sneakers for a very nice and natural look. Summer is the best time to wear a bodycon dress, very versatile, and suitable for going out or participating in any occasion.
In the end, you need to select the dress that suits you: each bodycon dress has many styles and colors; you can choose the dress that suits you according to your figure, which can better help you enhance your figure and enhance your self-confidence.
Confidence is key when wearing a bodycon dress. No matter your size or shape, if you feel good about what you wear, you will look good too. Experiment with different styles, colors and accessories until you find a look that feels comfortable and stylish for you to create the stylish look you want. You can try, something like:

Striking Back
1899
Being a news girl who spends her days hawking newspapers on the dirty streets of Manhattan. You barely make enough to scrape by day to day. So, when your paper suppliers Pulitzer and Hurst decide to raise the buying price of newspaper bundles from 40 cents to 50 you decide to join the brewing strikes.
America x reader
Chapter one.
The sun rose in the smoky hazy sky of Manhattan and Joey was curled up asleep on the steps of an old building. You let out a sigh of relief, you had been searching all night for him.
You gently shook his boney shoulder. Joey blinked open his eyes. “Hey. You have any food?” he asked hopefully. He had large brown eyes and dirty blonde hair. The clothes he wore were dirty and miles too big, Kid Blink’s old clothing that were too small for him. You ran your grimy fingers through tangled hair. You knew the answer was no, you had not a crumb on you. “I’ll... I’ll get you something. Just stay here” you promised.
Joey nodded dumbly and was asleep again. You rose unsteadily to your feet. You patted your pocket; you took comfort as you felt the shape of the rusty penknife against your palm. If you were lucky, you wouldn’t need to use it.
Ever since the strike started. You had no income, not a penny in your pocket for food or board. And as you said to Kid Blink last night. “If we don’t win this strike real soon, we all starve.” Kid Blink looked you, his face hardened. “Beg, borrow, steal. If we yield to this price hike we definitely will starve” You knew at 60 cents a bundle you need to sell 100 papers per day just to break even.
You had been pacing the streets for a while now, looking for a good target. Someone rich looking, someone who was naive enough to not flee at the sight of your grungy appearance. Someone-
Your ears pricked up as you heard a cheerful whistle, you turned to see a man striding along, dressed to the nines in Vicuña Wool and Japanese denim. He was swinging a Harrods bag.
Someone... like that...
He had a young face, a happy face, a face that looked like it had never seen hardship. Cheerful blue eyes framed with gold rimmed glasses. Oh yeah, this guy was a trust fund boy.
You eyed the Harrods bag. Whatever was in there could be sold and the money could buy some desperately needed bread. Your hand drifted down to your pocket, where the knife was. You weren’t gonna actually hurt the guy, just scare him. Still robbing people, even rich trust fund boys seemed wrong.
Joey’s gaunt face flashed through your mind, that put any hesitation out of your mind.
You stepped into his path, flicking out the blade, sunlight glinting off its wickedly sharp edge. “Hey. Nothing personal, just give me the bag” you said flatly. The carefree look had now fled his face replaced with startled confusion. It was only then you saw he was reaching for the gun holstered on his side, concealed under his jacket. You panicked. Throwing yourself forward onto him. You didn’t mean to, but your weight had driven the knife into his stomach. Taking advantage of his pain and shock you grabbed the Harrods bag with bloodied hands and scrambled to your feet.
---------
You and Joey were sharing a fresh loaf of French bread in the alley when Kid Blink showed up. Kid Blink was a rough looking guy, all scarred up, with hard marble like blue eyes and brown hair that was chopped haphazardly. He wore an eye patch over one eye, he never spoke of how he lost his eye. Kid Blink face of the strike, the guy you don’t want to cross. He took one look at the fresh bread and said, “Who did you rob and what did you take?” his tone was steel, his glare was accusatory. It took a lot to of effort not to flinch away from that unforgiving gaze.
You shrugged trying to seem casual. “Some rich guy. Glasses, blue eyes, blonde hair. Probably six foot” You ignored the second part of the question. Kid Blink didn’t need to know everything.
He shoved you backwards, sending you stumbling. “YOU IDIOT. You robbed Pulitzer and Hurst’s top investor. Alfred Jones…” for a moment he seemed too furious to speak. “If he’s seen your face and knows you’re with the strike then You’ve just doomed us all.”
It was your turn to get angry. “ME?! I’m not the one drenching paper stands that don’t support us and burning delivery carts! YOU THINK HURST AND PULTIZER WILL BE HAPPY WITH THAT?!” you roared back, sauntering close to Kid Blink. Joey was watching both of you nervously, cheeks stuff with bread. “At least I didn’t STAB THE TOP INVESTOR” Kid Blink snapped. He then snatched the half-eaten bread out of your hands and stuffed it into his mouth. You sat down on an overturned crate.
“If you are right, and this guy was Jones.” You said slowly “He was the who suggested the price hike. He was never gonna be on our side to begin with….in fact… You should be thanking me for stabbing that sonvabitch”. Kid Blink rolled his eyes. “This isn’t the time for wise cracks. Still, we’ll see how this whole thing plays out in the press. Before we make any moves”
You startled, feeling confused. “Press?”
“Oh yeah, I can see the headline now “innocent man attacked by gutter rat””. He said smirking. You took off one shoe and hurled it at his head, Kid Blink ducked as it the wall behind him with a clack, “this gutter rat has given you dinner you stupid sot!” you shot back.
If there is demand this can be turned into a series.

Keep My Love Warm
Series: Fluff Is My Jamstiel
Fandom: Supernatural:
Pairing: Dean Winchester & Sam Winchester, Proto-Sastimmy/Jamstiel (Jimmy Novak/Sam Winchester/Castiel)
Rating: General
Tags/Warnings: Witch Sam Winchester, Hunter Novak Brothers, Jimmy and Castiel Are Twins, Brief Allusions to Canon-Typical Violence, Bones Is Best Girl, Big Cloaks Are Awesome
Summary: There were benefits to being openly known as a witch in northern California. Occasional drawbacks, but the benefits mostly outweighed them.
For: @fluffyfebruary challenge!
Prompt: Day 7: Cloak
Read on AO3
THERE WERE BENEFITS to being known as the local witch, and even more benefits to being one of several self-professed "witches" in town. Sam Winchester kept in regular contact with the leaders of the local coven and many of them came to his shop for herbs or teas, and of the ones who actually had power they had an amicable trade of information and the occasional surplus of materials. Lily Baker's bees provided honey to several individuals and small businesses like Moore Coffee Please, for instance, and Scott and Ava Carey's sheep farm was one of the main suppliers of wool to the Weft and Weave which produced a lot of hand-spun and -dyed yarns that Sam enjoyed working with for his knitting. And there was also a certain level of gentle checks and balances, everyone checking in and making sure that nobody was getting any unsavory attention or, in a couple of cases, "backsliding" towards the kind of habits that got the attention of the "out of town" hunters.
Another benefit was that, in addition to this being northern California and therefore somewhat expected to draw in eccentricity, when you were a self-professed witch even the "uninitiated" population tended to just overlook some things. Tattoos and jewelry of more esoteric designs might raise an eyebrow or two, but mostly just garnered a query about where the person went to get them. Knitted socks and sweaters and scarves that had embroidered runes were regarded as "unique craftsmanship" and earned more compliments on the quality of the knitting than the subject of the embellishments.
And if Sam wanted to walk around in a huge oversized hooded cloak instead of a jacket or coat, not even Dean would try to stop him.
The cloak was actually one of the first things Sam had made for himself after escaping John Winchester and reaching Stanford. He had been invited along to an SCA event by a friend in one of his classes and had gone mostly out of courtesy which had turned into curiosity upon discovering the world of historical reenactment. The idea for making his own cloak came from seeing a similar one on another attendee, a huge thing made of brushed denim with a purple satin lining that could and did easily fit two people under it. The guy wearing it had been happy to tell Sam how he had made it, too, which led to Sam, Brady, and Jess taking a trip out to trawl through the local fabric stores.
Luck or the gods of sewing had been with him and Sam had ended up with an entire bolt of brushed black denim twill for ten bucks thanks to a bleach splash that Jess assured him could be fixed with a couple bottles of Rit and some vinegar. The silk-satin lining fabric was a lot more expensive and they ended up purchasing it over the course of two months, during which Jess also dragged Sam to the library to look up sewing manuals and pattern guides. The results of their research, hard work, and a borrowed sewing machine was a seven-panel cloak that, when laid out, went one and a half circles around and covered Sam's boots when he wore it. With a deep hood, four reinforced interior pockets, and a silver cloak clasp shaped like a pair of ivy leaves, Brady had joked that he could audition to be an extra on Lord of the Rings, but it was comfortable and handy to have the pockets to store snacks, not to mention its use as a walking blanket for the three of them when the air got chilly.
Sam had put the cloak away for a while when Brady had died, for multiple reasons. He didn't exactly forget about it, but he didn't think about it either until the seasons started to change towards the colder temperatures and he went looking for a jacket. The hem on the outer layer was fraying from brushing the ground, so Sam put it in his workroom to mend and ended up card weaving a new hem. And then he kept going and discovered that his ability to embroider protective runes extended to denim twill and silk thread, and the smaller thread and needles made the runes more subtle around the edges of the cloak and hood. Just to be thorough, he turned the cloak and lining inside out and reinforced the seams on the pockets.
He still might have hesitated over wearing it again if not for Dean catching him dithering over a jacket when his brother came to get him and Bones for a night out.
"We're going to a Spartans game, dude," he said with a shake of his head. "The obvious choice here is to bring the giant blanket so you're nice and warm and smug at me while I'm freezing my ass off until I break down and beg a fold of it like usual and the rumors about us dating restart around town."
"Thought you hated those rumors," Sam raised an eyebrow, because he had taken that psychology course while he was at Stanford and come to a few uncomfortable realizations about a number of things, including a few things about his relationship with Dean.
"Yeah, well, I hate young punks and demon bitches sliding into town and messing with your heart more than I hate people assuming we're dating 'cause we can't cop to the brothers thing," Dean grumbled.
"So this is about the Novaks," Sam concluded, rolling his eyes. "I don't get why they're still bugging you, dude. They showed up thinking there was a hunt, confirmed there wasn't, stayed to be supportive for the funeral, and left again. I know you remember what that was like, so why papa wolf routine?"
"Just doesn't feel like we've seen the last of them is all," Dean muttered, making Sam snort.
"Well, yeah, I gave them my card for if they need a magic consultant, so they might call someday," he shook his head fondly.
"You gave them your card," Dean repeated, staring at him. "Dude, you never give hunters your card!"
"Most hunters I meet these days are trying to kill me," Sam pointed out dryly. A shuffle from the hall had him looking up. "Bones, please tell my idiot brother that he needs to stop worrying about the Novaks coming back."
"You absolutely need to worry about them coming back," Bones answered distractedly, tugging at the slip dress she was wearing until it covered her breasts enough to be decent. "They both smelled of lust looking at you, and they brought you food more than once. Please tell me you're bringing the cloak? This dress is not going to be warm enough if I can't wear my fur."
Sam threw up his hands and grabbed the cloak out of the closet, swinging it around his shoulders and immediately feeling the weight and warmth settling into him. He still thought his brother and his familiar were making too much of things. He remembered the migrant hunter lifestyle, same as Dean did, and he was quite sure that even if he did see the Novak brothers again it wouldn't be for a few years, if they came back through this way at all.
He ignored the way his chest ached a little at the thought; they had a game to get to.
